City Of Ladies Experimental Animation
This is the result of an online seminar that simultaneously took place in several art schools and institutions around the world based on The Book of the City of Ladies written by Christine de Pizan in 1405. The author confronts the misogyny that characterized not only the literature of her day in Europe but also the representation of women reaching back across the ages.

Overview
The Book of The City Of Ladies confronts the misogyny that characterized not only the literature of the author's day in Europe but also the representation of women reaching back across the ages. This collaboration was between 5 global art institutions— KHM Germany, NID India, CAFA China, UNAL Columbia, LA Loyala, USA. Two groups from each university were handed a chapter to ideate and storyboard, which was then shuffled amongst each other. The storyboard was re-interpreted by the new group and developed further into an animated sequence.
The Idea
While discussing storyboards with their respective creators, we realised that the stories and struggles Christine de Pizan narrates are quite universal in its reach. We drew inspiration from the culture of Andhra Pradesh, such as the language, literature, textiles and art forms; and experimented with Stop-motion, Hand-drawn animation and Shadow Puppetry.
