Behavioural Change Films for Splash International
Promoting WASH behavioural Change among primary and secondary school students of Kolkata and Addis Ababa using animated shorts.
Splash International
Overview
Splash is a Social Justice Organization that designs child-focused water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and menstrual health solutions with governments in some of the world’s biggest cities. It serves over 900,00 kids in 8 countries in Asia and Africa. Clean water and decent sanitation are basic human rights, as recognized in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6. Unsafe drinking water and a lack of water or soap for handwashing are responsible for 2.2 million deaths each year, 90% of whom are children. Given the COVID-19 pandemic and increased recognition that handwashing with soap is key to prevention, this work is more critical today than ever before.
The Idea
Insights from the Focus group sessions with the students of Kolkata and Addis Ababa—
Primary- muppets+musical explainers for a younger audience. Having a scribbly, distorted perspective style to make the space abstract for kids. Characters based on Freudian principles to ensure everyone has someone they can resonate with.
Secondary- Sci-fi motion comics for the older kids. Targeting their altruistic nature and telling them how they can play a part in saving the world and people they love and care about.
